This week there have been several new songs of different genres that I have liked. One of the best dance tracks I’ve heard recently is Feelings the brand new single by the Irish dance music artists John Gibbons & Scimon Tist which features Mark Le Sal on vocals. The weekly IRMA Irish singles charts always features every dance hit single that does well internationally and Feelings in my opinion is as good as any other EDM single out at the moment and deserves to be a hit single both in Ireland and in other countries. I know from featuring their single All I Need on this website earlier this year that both John and Scimon appreciate all the support they get from music fans, radio presenters and music journalists.

The music video for Feelings features footage filmed at the Oxegen dance music festival and was part of their Power tour.

These Gods Will Fall – Marc Vedo & Federico Scavo featuring Boy George & John Gibbons

One of the great things about Boy George is how he constantly goes forward with the new music that he makes as a singer or DJ and also collaborates on as a guest vocalist. Boy George and John Gibbons are the featured vocalists on Marc Vedo & Federico Scavo‘s new song These Gods Will Fall. It is really quality dance music. While there have been several great dance songs released this year These Gods Will Fall is simply a stand out track.

The music video below brings the lyrics centre stage in a brilliantly subliminal way.

These Gods Will Fall is released on the Hotfingers Record label and can be purchased on Itunes here.

Summertime Sadness – Lana Del Rey Vs Cedric Gervais

Lana Del Rey’s first two singles Video Games and Born To Die both reached number 9 in the UK singles charts. since then none of the other singles that she has released reached the top ten. This weekend a remix by Cedric Gervais of her previously released single Summertime Sadness will give Lana her third top ten hit single in the UK. It is also climbing worldwide charts and is currently number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

It seems that many pop artists both female and male have to record a dance track or have one of their singles remixed to have a top 40 hit but Summertime Sadness is one that is a perfect song to be remixed. Lana is a music artist who if she was releasing songs in the 1980’s or 1990’s she would have had most of her singles go top ten but the charts today a different and often unfair place in terms of talent being recognised so it’s great to see Lana having a hit regardless of the genre her vocals feature in.

Here also is an extended version of Summertime Sadness.

Summertime Sadness is available to download on ITunes here.

Cool – Le Youth

Cool by Le Youth beautifully samples Cassie’s perfect R’n’B song Me & U which was released in 2006. This is perfect summer dance music.
There are lots of remixes of Cool on Le Youth’s Soundcloud page here.

Most of All – Jody Watley vs Everything But The Girl

One of the best dance albums that combined various genres of music is The Makeover by Jody Watley which was released in 2006. Jody’s version of Borderline is still one of the best re-imaginings of a Madonna song.
One song that Jody re-recorded at the time of The Makeover was her own song Most of All which was a single that had featured on her self-titled debut album in 1987. Like the songs that did feature on her album her new version of Most of All was pure elegance.

Here it is that mix of Most of All that beautifully uses the DJ Jazzy Jeff Full Sole Remix  of Mirrorball by  the wonderful English pop duo Everything But the Girl.

Turn Me Out – Russ Chimes

Turn Me Out by Russ Chimes samples the 1997 house song Turn Me Out (Turn to Sugar) by Praxis featuring Kathy Brown. This year the influence of 1990’s dance music is very evident in the tracks produced by today’s dance artists. Both dance music and their videos were beginning to sound and look very generic but by the end of 2012 that was beginning to change and so far this year there has been some quality dance music released. The music video for Turn Me Out also stands out as it does not use the same imagery of female sexuality which has definitely dominated that genre of music video. Turn Me Out is a beautifully stylish and confident dance song that deserves to one of the biggest dance songs of the summer that highlights for today’s music fans what made 1990’s dance so very brilliant.

Turn Me Out is on release now. Follow Russ on Twitter @RussChimes

Burning Sun (Summer Mix) – Katherine Lynch

Katherine Lynch is best known here in Ireland for the various comedy characters which she portrays on television and stage. In 1998 she was the winner of the Alternative Miss Ireland competition. I was in the audience at that show and her country and western character Tampy Lillette was so funny. I remember her send up of My Heart Will Go On being one of the highlights.
In May of this year Katherine released a four track E.P. which featured the songs Amsterdam (featuring Sharon Shannon), Burning SunS.O.B. (featuring Tupelo) and Settling Dust. Katherine’s vocals on Settling Dust is very much in the style of singers such as Dolores Keane.
This week Katherine released a dance remix version of her song Burning Sun which is remixed by Paul Murphy from Electric Penguins and Gareth Donoghue from The Japanese Popstars. I think a lot of people who know Katherine just as her characters on television will be surprised by this song. It’s a real club track  on which her vocal style works really well. She performed it at Dublin Pride today.
Burning Sun (Summer Mix) can be purchased in Ireland through ITunes here.

All I Need- John Gibbons & Scimon Tist Featuring Rebecca Creighton

All I Need is the new single by Irish dance music artists John Gibbons & Scimon Tist. The vocalist is Rebecca Creighton who featured in X Factor in 2010 when she was a member of the girl group Belle Amie and has since last year been a solo recording artist.

All I Need was released at the end of January here in Ireland and has been a radio hit reaching number one on nightly radio chart updates. There is a great mix of music genres in Ireland these days and it’s always great to hear new pop or dance music Irish music artists. I think All I Need is as strong as any dance song in the UK charts at the moment.
All I Need is available to download on ITunes here.

Song of the Day: Seychelles – Perseus

It is cold and dark here in Dublin this November evening so for my Song of the Day I decided to choose a track where it is always summer. Seychelles by Perseus featured on his Russian Girlfriends E.P. last year. What is great about Perseus is that the songs that he samples aren’t always recognisable straight away, he uses part or a hook from a song and not the chorus and it works so well. The sample he uses in Seychelles is You’re Making Me High by Toni Braxton which was fabulous r’n’b pop back in 1996 and still is today.

Song of the Day: Mainline – Tensnake featuring Syron

There has been several great dance songs with a great retro feel such as Lost In Your Love by Redlight and Latch by Disclosure featuring Sam Smith. Both of those songs have been big chart hits and here is another that I think deserves to do well. It’s Mainline by Tensnake featuring Syron. It really captures the spirit of all those great house songs from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.  There is a great energy to this song and bass line. Syron is on the same label as Rudimental; which is Black Butter Records and I think 2013 is going to be her year. I love her solo records too and she has a great mix tape which I will feature another time. Starting today I want to post a song of the day post which may be a new or old single, an album track or a B-side so this track is the first.

Mainline is released this week in the UK on Defected Records label.
